I was staying at Bass River State Park with my family and my friend Lynne. I was a New Jersey teenager , burning to get to the beach and boys. Lynne and I talked my parents into letting me back to Ventnor with her, where we both lived. Her parents drove out to pick us up. Her family had a home by the beach and I can still my Mom and my brother watching me leave , my Mom crying. She knew and I knew, I had crossed a line in adolescence. Back on the island ,Lynne and I walked a block to the beach, wandered down to the ocean and meandered down the surf line , so glad we were soon to be freshman . All I can recall is suddenly the sky started to explode with stars and they began falling faster and faster from denser clouds of light all pirouetting in the sky. The Atlantic seemed to merge into the firmament, creating a dome- a blue water reflection of what I thought were a billion shooting stars. At 13 we thought the Persaids marked our joy in going to high school and we watched from the beach thinking tomorrow would be filled with boys.
Cathy Cress

Re: Holiday Gift Ideas: Compasses and Pocket Knives

A pocket knife and compass are perfect gift for travelers/adventurers. I am in love with the beauty & nature within the SF Bay Area & the surrounding parts of CA. One of my favorite things to do is get out and explore with my family, my dog, & snap photos to document our adventures--I'm always looking for new places & regularly revisit my favorites.

As we all begin to favor the www over printed text, I've found myself exhausting the content that is available for our area. I want to see photographs, read descriptions, learn about the surrounding area (history, wildlife, where to grab a bite, etc.) before I get there--pet/kid friendly info is a MUST, and I want it all at my fingertips in a moment's notice. What's so great about today, is that it is becoming a reality! I just found you on fbook, and can't wait to see what future posts will share!

The Mighty Sparrow is in a wonderful position to reap the benifits of the world of emedia and web 2.0 at this stage of the www's evolution. Kudos to you, good luck on this endeavor, & I look forward seeing more!

Re: Site News: We’ll Be Right Back

I'm trying to plan some camping trips around the meteor showers. Google keeps bringing up your site as but the dates are 2009. I can't read the star charts to figure this out. It is great place to do this. If you are an ambitous hiker, you can hike to Devils Kitchen first, backtrack to Drakesbad Meadow, head to Boiling Lake and continue down Terminal Geysers. You can even hike back from Terminal Geysers on the famous Pacific Crest Trail.
Nevermind any real places to take in hot springs to soak in! Be very careful around any mud pots, and volcanic hot spring activity! You could end up like Mr. Bumpass with loosing a limb from falling into a mudpot! Vaillant weaves a compelling tale of the formation of the islands and the native tribes, who first gained wealth trading sea otter pellets with the Europeans. When that business dried up, there were tough times until the logging business picked up. One tree, the Golden Spruce of myth and legend, was spared by the logging conglomerates as a publicity stunt, until Hadwin came along.

Re: Everything You Need To Know About Redwood National Park

Great overview of Redwood National and State Parks-What about food options?

Re: A Mighty Photo- February 1

Looks like a great place to ride-are those bikes rented from Redwood Adventures in Redwood National Park?

Re: Pull!

It looks like the facilities have been upgraded...time for another trip out to Camanche...

http://www.recordnet.com/ap...

Re: A Mighty Photo- January 6

I have a picture of that same rock!
